Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirm that the rates of smoking have been the barest minimum in this era. As more adults keep ditching their sticks of cigarettes, the rates have hit an all-time low. However, a research report in the United States suggests that the total number of adult smokers in the country may be around 15%. Since the year 1997 when the process of tracking down cigarette began, the reduction from 24.7% to the most recent 15% is commendable. During the period of recession – between 2008 and 2009 – the prevalence escalated a bit. So far, the story has taken a new turn.
Fewer people are smoking; why is that?
The last five years have witnessed a great decline in the rate of smoking. An important reason may be due to motivational campaigns held by CDC from a bunch of former smokers. After launching the campaign in 2012, there was a parade of past addicts showing tips that helped them. A particularly memorable tip from the long list of smoking-related diseases was ‘do not cut your stoma when shaving’.
Another factor was because new generation adults are immensely exposed to several campaigns that condemn the act. Unfortunately, older generations are unaware of the consequences because of little information.
A singularly effective culprit is electronic cigarettes. Even though it is incomprehensible how e-cigarettes can help people quit smoking cigarettes, a great pattern is seen in the alarming increase of e-cigarettes as smoking rates reduce. Worthy of mention is the fact that some scientists are unsure of the safety of vaping for the health. Again, tobacco tax hikes are the reason for the high cost of smoking in recent years – a case that supports the reduction in smoking.
Why more men smoke than women
Comparative data shows that men tend to smoke cigarettes than women – 16.7% for men and 13.6% for women. While this global trend may be due to cultural norms, this has always been the trend from day one. In other parts of the world, the World Health Organization shows that the ratio between men and women that smoke is a ridiculous 40% to 9%. Owing to the estimated risk of smoking for the health, this is a major problem.
For ages, heart diseases are mostly the consequences of regular exposure to cigarettes. According to the US General Surgeon report in 2014, active smokers are likely to develop lung cancer than others in multiples of 25. Compared to non-smokers, smokers are more likely to cut down their years of existence by about 15 years. As more men have quit smoking, recent data shows a comparable ratio exists between male and female smokers now.

Both groups of nicotine addiction treatment are laudable. From an experiment, participants in both treatment groups responded effectively. An estimation of about 20% was given to the participants that actually quit smoking across both groups. Because alcohol is a causative agent for a relapse in smokers, it is advisable to slow down on booze.
